Slayers of the Rat King

This song tells the tale of 5 heroes from a roleplaying game my dad was running. It's supposed to be a song from the world of the rpg, sung in taverns and such. The lyrics were written by Bayden Woodland, my brother (because his character is a bard) and it inspired me to write this song using his lyrics. I tried to write the song like an old bard song, in a style fitting for the lyrics.

A cave that hides a secret pow’r
A Loci of the earth
A whirl of stones beneath the tow’r
Where rat swarms now are birthed

A monster rat of equine size
With fur as white as snow
Was hidden from the heroes’ eyes
Within the halls below

(Chorus):
Glory! Glory!
Sing the heroes’ story!
The slayers of the Rat King draw near
Akalai and Howler
Siobhan with magic power
Songspinner and Gaidon are here

The orcen host were hiding deep
Within old Ertha’s land
The freeland treasures they would keep
With treachery they planned

A writhing sea of stinking fur
A mass of teeth and paws
A thousand thousand vermin were
Within the cavern’s maw

A pair of doors of carven stone
That stood a dozen feet
Where only torchlight dimly shone
The orcs made their retreat

Boldly strode the heroes and
Across engrav-ed tiles
Where walls of granite charged and rammed
To guard the Rat King vile

When Howler howled and charged the orcs
And rats the size of boars
And five to one they came in force
He knocked them to the floor

And when the Rat King tried to run
Through rats that fell like rain
He ran into the howling one
The fiendish foe was slain
